Gaining an overseas education has earned Denil Philip a management career in one of the most exciting industries of the future – Biomedical Engineering.

Biomedical engineers combine engineering, medicine and biology to improve the quality of our lives by solving healthcare problems.

Denil, from Adoor in Kerala, held a Bachelor in Electronic and Biomedical Engineering from TKM Institute of Technology based in his home State. While working in a hospital and a medical company after graduation, he became interested in Management, Budgeting and building relationships with stakeholders.

He obtained a Graduate Diploma in Operations and Production Management from Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Palmerston North.

Valuable experience

“The practical experience that I gained from the assignments, quizzes and presentations was very valuable and gave me a good grounding in management. I learned to build good team relationships with the people around me and grew in confidence to face the challenges out in the real world,” he said.

Following graduation, Denil worked at Bio Serve New Zealand Limited, a medical sales company with a specialised medical devices service and repair division, before being appointed Clinical Engineering Technologist at Waitemata District Health Board.

“My dream is to become a Clinical Engineering Manager and an expert in the Biomedical industry,” he said.
