We have pleasure in presenting our latest (May 15, 2021) Digital Edition.

Indian Newslink has a conservative outlook on issues related to health and safety; even more so in relation to Covid-19. All of us in New Zealand have worked together, obeyed the rules and regulations in force, helped each other and made our communities free of the deadly pandemic. Happily, we are a disciplined lot.

New Zealand Citizens in India

However, listening to the pleas and reading the pathetic messages that we receive from our fellow citizens who are stranded in India for the past three or four months, we are forced to pause and consider whether it is not our duty to bring them back home.

On reflection and on balance, we believe that we have to do so.

New Zealand is their home, they have no other citizenship, even though India may be the country of their birth, they belong to this country.

Granted, that they should not have travelled out of New Zealand since our government has, on more than one occasion, cautioned against moving to high-risk countries. Granted, that they should have returned when the second wave of the pandemic began to strike hard in India but flights were still operating.

No time for arguments

But this is no time to argue but to plan for their return home.

We do not know the exact numbers but according to one estimate, there are about 800 New Zealand citizens in India now and perhaps another 800 people who are their immediate dependent-members of the family and hence they are eligible to come home.

Our May 15, 2021 Edition devotes a few pages to this issue.

We hope that you will read them and then post your comments or views.
