The Great Race

The Annual Race Unity Speech Competition symbolises freedom of speech and fosters the young to think and speak, promoting in the process the concept of oneness.

Human Rights Commission Strategic Advisor Race Relations personifies the anxiety of the sponsoring and supporting organisations to engage with the people of all ethnicities in general and the younger members of the society in particular and enthuse them to debate on issues that matter to them and to the country at large.

Small to Big

In an earlier statement, Superintendent Wallace (Wally) Haumaha of the New Zealand Police said that the Police have continued to support the event since it provides an opportunity for talented youth to debate on the ways and means of achieving positive race relations.

“These inspirational young people have the calibre of leaders we are targeting to join the New Zealand Police. Their deep insight and realisations on a complex topic highlights that our youth have the solutions to make society safer. Our vision is safer communities together, regardless of ethnicity. These Speech Awards remain a really powerful tool for breaking down barriers and promoting unity in our communities,” he said.
