Chicken and Lamb Biriyani at $10 during Alert 3

Two restaurants of the Sathya chain are offering special rates for a wide range of food items that customers can order online and collect through contactless methods during Alert Level 3 of Covid-19 lockdown announced by the New Zealand government.

The service commenced on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, the day from which the reduced Alert Level came into effect and since then, Sathya Restaurants in Sandringham (515 Sandringham Road) and Grey Lynn (17 Great North Road) have been experiencing a busy schedule.

Affordable variety

A N Swamy and his son Samrudh (Sammy) who run the Sathya brand (including those located at Mount Eden and K Road), said that as they emerged from total lockdown over five weeks, they were keen to offer various dishes at special rates.

“Covid-19 has placed great uncertainties on the New Zealand as it has across the world. A majority of New Zealanders are still in their homes, either working or have been laid-off as companies have scaled down their operations. We wanted to do our bit to our communities which reflects in the reduced cost of food items at our restaurants,” they said.

Customers can order online (www.satya.co.nz) anytime but the pickup time would be between 12 pm and 230 pm and from 530 pm to 830 pm all days of the week.

Health and hygiene compliance

Mr Swamy said that staff at the restaurants will strictly adhere to the Alert 3 regulations and comply with the public health requirements.

“There is no physical contact. Orders and payments are made online and special counters have been set up for pick up. There is ample parking space available during the current Alert level. We look forward to serving customers,” he said.

Sammy said that at $10 per plate, the Chicken or Lamb Biriyani is the most affordable Biriyani in the market today.

“We have also reduced the price of family pack to $34 which will suffice for a family of four persons. Our Biriyani dishes are served with Raita and Salan. In addition, customers can order many other items from our online Menu,” he said.

Quality comes with variety and affordability

Free Chaat

Sammy said that customers can treat themselves to a free plate of Chaat from the menu, subject to availability.

“This free offer is available to all- even to those who do not order any other item on payment. However, only one plate of Chaat will be served per customer and per order and the type of Chaat will be subject to availability. We invite people – our regular customers and others to enjoy a variety of food times from our Menu. Stay home, except to visit our restaurants for the takeaway and stay safe at all times,” Mr Swamy said.

About Sathya Restaurants

Mr Swamy and his wife Padmaja established the Sathya brand in 1999, the first restaurant on Hobson Street in Auckland’s Central Business District. It was the first South Indian restaurant in the area. The Swamy couple earned a reputation for serving the best South Indian snacks (Idly, Dosa, Upma and other items) and soon expanded to include a wider range of South and North Indian dishes. The Restaurant chain expanded in later years and today the signboards can be seen in Ponsonby, K Road and Mount Eden, in addition to Satya Chai Lounge, Satya Chai Bazaar and GG X Flamingo, all in Central Auckland.
The Swamy family has been providing free Christmas Lunch to the needy and the poor for the past nine years, as a part of community service.
The Satya Restaurants have received rave reviews in the New Zealand Herald and many trade and mainstream publications.
