South Auckland event promotes wellbeing of children

An event focusing on children and their future will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Mountfort Park, in Manurewa, South Auckland.
Organised by ChoiceKids Kura, the Programme will feature cultural performances and live entertainment and will include amusement such as Pony Rides, Bumper Balls, Bouncy Castles and a live DJ.
Celebrating Tamariki
ChoiceKids Kura Leader Sheree Davys said that the Programme, under the theme, ‘Children are the Future of our Community,’ will celebrate our Tamariki (children) and unite the community to eradicate domestic violence and child abuse from South Auckland.
Local community support services such as the New Zealand Police, Victim Support, Oranga Tamariki and Te Kaha will be on site informing and empowering the community and the support that they extend to them, she said.

“We are more than Childcare, we are family. ChoiceKids was created to make a difference. We believe that child learning outcomes are far greater with parent and community involvement,” Ms Davys said.
ChoiceKids has built eight centres in South Auckland, accounting for 1000 children and 90 staff. Established in 2011, innovation and community spirit have been its driving spirit.
Ms Davys said that she grew up in the local community and hence is passionate about the future of children.
It vision is to see people ‘Rise from ‘Rewa’ (slender) and become role models for future generations.
Workshops for caregivers
Among the activities at the event would be a Workshop on ‘How to build a great Whanau,’ conducted by Pio Terei of ‘The Parenting Place.’
Clendon Park Primary School Principal Sue Dawson said that ChoiceKids has helped her institution with a strong community spirit.
“Their children attending our School are academically well on the path way and very well equipped and prepared with writing, colours, numbers and social skills. We look forward to the Programme with a powhiri from our cultural group,” she said.
