Strategic investment pays

Targeted investment in principals and teachers is a strategic move that could significantly improve student skill levels.

Funding for leadership and expert teaching in schools would be well placed, as research shows that quality of school leaders and teachers has a big impact on student achievement.

The outcome of higher skilled people and a more competitive economy would benefit everyone.

It will be important to focus on skills relevant to enterprise, including Mathematics, Science and Technology. It is important to have dedicated and expert teachers in these areas.

Higher income potential and greater career opportunities are also likely to make education positions more attractive in the labour market, which should help with attracting and retaining top talent in schools.

It would be critical to ensure that additional investment results in improved student achievement in skills that are valued in the labour market today and in the future.
