Technology abets quality service

While personalised service forms the core of business growth in a fiercely competitive market, companies that subscribe to modern technology would have the advantage of speed, accuracy, efficiency and cost.

UVL Customs & Freight is among such organisations, which continuously invest in the latest computer programmes and telecommunications technology to meet the evolving needs of the market.

Managing Director Shammem Khan believes that investment in such resources accrue benefits to business in the short term as well.

“A host of activities involve computer technology in the modern business environment. These include preparation of documents, electronic transmission, calculation of costs, taxes, duties and other remittances, communications with importers, exporters, distributors, shippers, shipping agents and a number of agencies throughout the world. Computer technology enhances efficiency and there is no alternative to remain a step ahead of competitors,” he said.

He has been in business since 2003, when most activities were conducted manually. But trade practices have changed and hence it is important to keep pace with the ever-evolving technology, he said.

“Computerised records help us not only to retrieve information instantly but also to keep in touch with important government agencies such as the Agriculture & Forestry Ministry and the New Zealand Food Safety Authority,” he said.

Customer focus

Mr Khan said his primary aim is to promote business within the South Pacific region, which is ‘closer home.’

His commitment to serve the Pacific people encouraged him to introduce small consignments at affordable prices.

Serving small customers helped UVL Customs & Freight has grown and today the Company serves customers moving big and heavy-duty items in large, break bulk containers across the region.

“No job is too big or too small and we have the ability to ship any cargo of any size or shape anywhere. Modern technology allows us to move shipments into the Pacific within the shortest possible time,” he said.

Mr Khan said that his Company has regular air and sea freights to various destinations in the South Pacific.

Extensive Services

“Our ability to offer a wide range of services including customs clearance, warehousing and distribution is seen as a distinct advantage. We believe that we understand the Pacific people better than others do,” he said.

Among the other services provided to customers include Consultancy, Container Cargo, Customs Bonded Storage Facility, Domestic Cartage, Duty Drawbacks, Express Service for Urgent or Non-Urgent Inbound & Outbound Freight, FCL Freight, Import & Export Entries, LCL Freight, Personal Effects and Temporary Import Entries.

“We are aware that apart from large and medium size companies, there are small operators and individuals who are constantly looking for a company that would offer high standards of service at reasonable costs,” Mr Khan said.
