The gyrating ambassadors of Bollywood would be the talk of the town as they perform in Tauranga and Auckland next month.
‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ is stated to depict the history of the Indian film industry through the ages, providing tributes to some of the icons who shaped its destiny from the silent era to the modern re-mix bonanza.

Direct from City Mumbai The Merchants of Bollywood is exploding onto the stage at Baypark in a flurry of glitz and glamour.
This high energy show is sure to wow and leave you wanting more.
‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ features a cast of more than 40 performers from Film City Mumbai – the home of Bollywood Cinema.
The show tells the story of the Merchant family- the dynasty that holds the responsibility of upholding the ancient traditions of Kathak, the Dance of the Gods.
Shantilal Merchant is the last in the line of Gurus. This tradition is about to die.
Exquisite costumes and jewellery
Featuring a cast of over 40 performers adorned in 1200 different eye-popping costumes and 5000 pieces of glistening jewellery, this uplifting show is a riot of colour and high-voltage music by award-winning composers Salim and Sulaiman Merchant.

Costumes, Colour and Calibre
Sensational dance scenes have been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant, granddaughter of Hiralalji Merchant, one the founders of classic Bollywood Cinema.
Merchant’s choreography incorporates many styles of Indian dancing including folkloric dance from Rajasthan and contemporary forms such as disco, showcasing the true variety of Bollywood musicals.

A theatrical dance spectacular, ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ charts the enchanting history of the world’s largest and most prolific film industry, and a dynasty of stars that have lit its way over generations.


It transcends time and is a touching tribute to the Bollywood greats of yesterday and the box-office hits of today.
A fictional story, yet based on real life, ‘The Merchants of Bollywood’ will reveal to the Western audience the workings of cinema and the part it plays in the heart and soul of the Indian society in an extraordinary evening of music and dance at the heart of which lies a heartfelt story of a young girl, her grandfather and their love of dance.
