A new joint to cool your system

Venkat Raman

Lassi, a simple and healthy drink that has been a popular offering to guests for thousands of years in India, is fast becoming a place of attraction on the main avenue of Auckland’s busy Central Business District.

‘Lassi Junction,’ as it is called, has just opened for business at 350 Queen Street (Shop 12), confident of not only quenching the thirst of people but also creating another way of healthy living.

Healthy indulgence

An initiative of Ramya and Ash Negi, the beverage outlet claims to be different and not a mere addition to scores of eateries on the most prestigious street of the country.

“Lassi Junction started with the thought of developing something authentic for the healthy indulgence of people. It soon became a project and a passion. We are here to treat customers to a new and unique experience and offer this healthy drink for a great value than money can buy,” Ramya said.

She said that the little shop offers flavours assorted with smooth twirls of thick yogurt, combined with ‘delectable extravagance’ and chilled to the supreme.

“It is so velvety and sinuous in your mouth that it slithers down your throat with no effort; it is a healthy bliss for all your cravings,” Ramya said.

Wide variety

Open from 10 am to 8 pm on all days of the week, ‘Lassi Junction’ offers a wide variety of flavours, including Mango, Banana, Rose, Chocolate, Strawberry and Passion Fruit.

“We also offer some fusion of flavours like Paan (Beetle Nuts), Kesar (Saffron) and a combination of Banana and Cinnamon. For all those health conscious people out there Lassi Junction also offers Lassi made out of low fat yoghurt,” Ramya said.

Lassi is a traditional Indian drink made from thick and sweetened yoghurt. In most homes around India, it is offered to guests as a routine welcome drink.

Known for its digestive power, Lassi can be a ‘straightforward dilution of yogurt’ or eternally expansion versions with combinations of salt, sugar and spices.

Ramya said that Lassi Junction will be innovative and reasonably priced.
