Christmas cheer is being brought to hundreds of Kiwi homes as New Zealand’s largest home-based childcare provider reaches out to those in need.

Porse In-Home Childcare is delivering gifts to New Zealand charities by the boot-load this week.

Hundreds of toys and other presents collected through a new gift drive initiative will give less fortunate families something to look forward to on Christmas day.

Porse offices from around the country selected a charity to support, with many collecting toys and gifts for national organisations like The Salvation Army and Women’s Refuge.

Others decided to back causes with strong ties to their local communities, such as Palmerston North’s Te Aroha Noa Community Services, Whanganui City Mission and Out and About With Kids, Hawke’s Bay.

Porse General Manager Kerry Henderson had been overwhelmed by the generosity and positive community response.

“It is really heartening for us to see people coming forward and giving what they can to help put a smile on the faces of children who might otherwise have gone without on Christmas day.

“It has also been an opportunity for parents and educators involved with PORSE to teach children about the importance of helping others,” she said.

The Salvation Army Head of Social Services Major Pam Waugh said they expect to see more than 17,000 families and individuals nationwide this year, who find the festive season a struggle.

“For parents, knowing that someone cared enough to help them brings hope to life, and for children to get something that’s just theirs is a special memory they treasure,” she said.
