Elders enjoy trip to Northland

Members of the Senior Citizens Group of the Auckland Indian Association (AIA) enjoyed three days of fun-filled trip to North Island and a day trip to Hamilton recently.

The Group, comprising 49 men and women visited the Coromandel, Kaimai Ranges, Mamaku Forest and sylvan surroundings of farms during their tour.

AIA Public Relations Officer Dhiru Patel, who accompanied the seniors, said it was akin to a family outing, with women bringing along homemade sweets and snacks.

“While we spent two hours walking along the beach, some of us in the Group could not climb ‘Moturiki,’ a little hillock on the beach. However, everyone enjoyed a social evening at our Motel in Tauranga,” he said.

The second day visits comprised a tiki tour of Papamoa, Katikati and Waihi.

“Our journey also took us through the Coromandel Forest Park to Pauanui. For many it was mentally and physically stimulating. A majority in the Group had not visited Tauranga and Mt Maunganui before and hence found it exciting.

“Ten days after the North Island tour, we arranged a day-trip to Hamilton, which attracted 63 members of the Group,” Mr Patel said.
