Auckland based Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust has commenced an Ethnic Playgroup with an emphasis on education and fraternal bond.
The Group will meet from Monday to Wednesday from 930 am to 12 pm at the Trust premises located at 13 May Road, Mt Roskill.
Trust Chairman Jeet Suchdev said that the Playgroup, open for children up to five years of age, has been designed to facilitate them to experience Indian culture and appreciate and adopt ethnic diversity.
The first session began on March 10, he said.
“Our aim is to prepare children for kindergarten classes and beyond. We took this initiative to give an opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their children. The programme gains value as children learn with their parents and elders taking an interest in their activities,” he said.
Cooperative venture
Mr Suchdev said that the Playgroup is run cooperatively and that each parent or caregiver is responsible for their children..
On a related note, the annual Children & Youth Summer Camp organised by the Trust from January 13 to 17, 2014 attracted 103 participants.
The daily programme included morning prayers, rhythmic exercises, Badminton and Soccer lessons and entertainment.
Among the highlights of the annual event were visits to the Sky City Tower in Auckland’s Central Business District and Cornwall Park (One Tree Hill).
“The positive feedback from parents has encouraged us to consider initiatives, one of which is the Playgroup,” Mr Suchdev said.
