Hundreds greet bridal couple Gawanjit Singh Bakshi and Maneet Kaur

Venkat Raman –

The Wedding Reception of Gawanjit (Gawan) Singh Bakshi and his bride Maneet Kaur Bakshi was anticipated with anxiety, because it was expected to be a grand affair.

For about 320 guests who attended the event at Langham Hotel on Saturday, January 30, 2016, it was more than sublime. It was a superb example of hospitality, good food, soulful (although extremely loud) music and most important of all the love and respect with which Gawan’s parents (National MP) Kanwaljit Singh and Irvinder Kaur are held by people.

Maneet’s parents Navleen Singh and Satinder Kaur Kohli live in Bangalore but the Wedding was held in Delhi on Monday, January 18, 2016, which was attended by a number of friends of the family.

Impressive Guests

The Reception witnessed the presence of ‘Who is Who,’ in New Zealand and as H P Luthera, a family friend said in his speech, “Prime Minister John Key (who was present with his wife Bronagh) has the quorum here to convene a Caucus meeting.”

Indeed, there were no less than nine ministers present with their families.

Among them were Chester Burrows (Deputy Speaker of Parliament), Steven Joyce (Economic Development Minister) and his wife Suzanne, Jonathan Coleman (Health Minister) and his wife Sandra, Hekia Parata (Education Minister) and her husband Sir Wira Gardiner, Judith Collins (Police Minister) and her husband David Wong Tung, Michael Woodhouse (Immigration Minister) and his daughter Emily, Todd McClay (Trade Minister) and his wife Nadene, Peseta Sam Lotu-liga (Ethnic Communities Minister) and his wife Jules, Nikki Wagner (Customs Minister) and her husband David, and Commerce Minister Paul Goldsmith and his wife Melissa.

As well as National Party President Peter Goodfellow and several Members of Parliament and close friends of the Bakshi family were present at the Reception.

Gawan’s younger brother Rijakjit was the Master of Ceremonies.

Significant occasion

Earlier in his speech, Mr Key highlighted family values and the significance of marriages that brought together families and friends.

Harinder Pal Singh Luthera, a friend of the Bakshi family, spoke about the parental qualities of Kanwaljit Singh and Irvinder Kaur Bakshi and the upbringing of their two sons and proposed a toast for the bridal couple.
