20 prominent Faith representatives joined the Police at the formal inaugural ceremony.
National Ethnic Advisor Inspector Rakesh Naidoo said that the New Zealand Police is a diverse organisation.
“We have now have more than a hundred different ethnic and Iwi represented in the Police force. This historical occasion will mark a milestone in the commitment of the Police to valuing diversity and empathetically meeting the diverse needs of our staff and guests. The Room will serve as a place where people can safely observe their cultural and Faith practices in a quiet and respectful manner,” he said.
According to Inspector Naidoo, the Interfaith Prayer Room will also accommodate a Library with numerous informative books about culture and religion.
