An Indian organisation with international presence recently honoured Manukau District Court Judge Dr Ajit Swaran Singh with the ‘Bharat Gaurav (Pride of India) Award’.
‘Sanskriti Yuva Sanstha,’ which aims to create a healthy, clean and green environment in India, organised the ceremony at Hilton Hotel New York City on June 9, 2012.
This was the first international award given by the Organisation to distinguished persons in recognition of their ‘Life Time Achievement.’
Dr Singh and his wife Subhag were on holiday in Canada at that time and hence were able to attend the Awards ceremony.
Pundit Suresh Mishra, President of Sanatan Mahasabha of Rajasthan and Sanskriti Yuva Sabha said that the international body was delighted to honour Dr Singh with the Award.
“Your personality and work have inspired us immensely and we are privileged to credit you with the ‘Bharat Gaurav Award.’ Our Selection Committee chooses people who have contributed notably in their respective fields,” he said.
Among the highlights of the event was the release of a Coffee Table Book titled, ‘Bharat Gaurav,’ which contains the life, career and work of Dr Singh and others who received similar honour.
Actor-Producer Manoj Kumar was another recipient of the Award.
‘Bharat Gaurav’ was also conferred posthumously to Gazal Singer Jagjit Singh.
“Sanskriti is a well-known social organisation in India, which is closely
associated with all the programmes and activities which are related to the promotion of the natural environment in India. We also appreciate the traditions and cultural values of the country. We are making efforts to create awareness among the Indian youth about these values,” Pundit Mishra said.
