Visitors to Sudima Auckland Airport Hotel, unless they are customers or friends, would not know that Laxmi Jhunjhnuwala is its Director of the Company. For, she is also subject to the same rules and conditions, rights and responsibilities that govern all employees.
Raised in Delhi, Laxmi settled in Hong Kong following her marriage to businessman Sudesh.
“Like any other Indian women, my focus was caring for my three daughters and family, with no time for myself,” she said.
Looking back at those years, she is gratified and justifiably proud at the progress achieved by her children.
Moving to New Zealand brought many changes in her life, one of the most significant of which was that she found time to think about her life, career and her aspirations. A gifted painter, her works have been featured at a number of exhibitions in Auckland and Wellington (and in this newspaper) over the past several years. Her desire for academic qualifications encouraged her to obtain a graduate (Bachelor) degree in Visual Arts from AUT University in 2009.
“I believe that if you put 100% of your heart and soul to achieve something, nothing can stop you. Art is my passion. I eventually joined the family business and my goal is to make the Sudima brand well known in the greater community, as I specialised in events, functions and weddings,” she said.
The banquet hall and convention rooms at the Hotel are versatile and can be transformed to suit specific needs by the dedicated team.
“Supporting the local community, ensuring best environmental practice and participating in charitable events are something that we do well at Sudima,” Laxmi said.
