Model of the Fortnight

Concern for the poor brings joy to the world

Child poverty and inequality in health are among the issues that all New Zealanders must address jointly as a community, says Deborah Lambie, our Model of the Fortnight.

She believes that her performance at the Miss World New Zealand 2015 competition due to be held in Auckland on April 25, 2015 would be a critical factor in bringing about a positive change in the attitude of people.

She is seeking sponsorship of companies and individuals to fund her participation.

“Although the amount involved is not very high, I hope that more than one company or individual can share the cost,” she said.

Beauty & Fashion

Beauty and fashion have held her interest since she was a child but Deborah believes that education and career are of greater importance. She has First Class Honours graduate degree in Medical Sciences and postgraduate degree (Masters) in Entrepreneurship with distinction.

“My parents taught my sister and me to ask, ‘How can I help?’ This encouraged me to study medicine and seek a career centered around supporting others on their road to health and wellbeing,” she said.

Serene Dunedin

Born and raised in Dunedin, which she described as ‘beautiful and wonderful city where everything is within walking distance,’ Deborah was drawn to the thriving fashion industry and the Annual Fashion Week.

The event threw the spotlight on her, with an opportunity to demonstrate her talent.

“The Fashion show featured the longest catwalk in Australasia, with a runway time of eight minutes. These shows are the most memorable in my life,” Deborah said.

Global contests

She won the Miss New Zealand University contest in 2013 and represented the country at the World Miss University Competition in Korea in the following year.

Deborah said that the ‘Miss Speech’ that she delivered for New Zealand was a major highlight of the global contest.

Last year, she won the ‘Miss Supermodel New Zealand’ competition and represented New Zealand at the World Supermodel Competition in Fiji.
