Model of the Fortnight

Everyone should interact with the community but must pursue objectives in life independently, says Araminta Chand, our Model of the Fortnight.

The Fiji-born youngster moved to New Zealand after obtaining a scholarship to pursue her graduate degree in Commerce (BCom) at the University of Canterbury in South Island.

She is now employed as a financial accountant at a leading tertiary institution.

“Moving to New Zealand was a turning point in my life and I believe that I have achieved many of the goals that I set for myself in life. A successful career has taught me to be independent with a waterfront apartment,” she said.

Such independence could of course be exacting but Araminta says life brings with it challenges and opportunities.

“Each of these is a learning curve and although I like to lead life on my terms, I take much pleasure in spending time with family and friends, who are a source of strength and inspiration for me,” she said.

Araminta belongs to the socially conscious young men and women who believe in ‘giving something back to the community.’ She is an enthusiastic participant in a number of social and community events including the ‘Diwali Mela,’ and other programmes that highlight Indian culture and tradition.

She takes immense pleasure in modelling outfits for ‘Khazana.’ She also enjoyed her appearance (as an extra) in Bollywood film ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon.’

New Zealanders can watch her on TV 3 documentary series, ‘What’s Really in Our Food,’ this month.

She takes Toastmasters coaching classes and programmes of Auckland Women Accountants SIG seriously.

Her other interests include Cancan and belly dancing.

Araminta attributes her success in life to the guidance and support extended by her father, a retired banker.

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence,” she said.
