New body to voice Asian Chief Executives

A new organisation to provide a common platform for Chief Executives of Asian origin is being established in Auckland, with plans to open a chapter in Wellington next year.

An initiative of Mai Chen, Managing Partner, Chen Palmer Public & Employment Law Specialists and Adjunct Professor of the University of Auckland Business School, the new Organisation, called, ‘AsiaNZ CEO’ will be launched on August 27 in Auckland.

Ms Chen is also the Master of Ceremonies of the Indian Newslink Sir Anand Satyanand Lecture due to be held on July 29 with Medtech Global Limited Executive Chairman Vino Ramayah as the Guest Speaker.’

Leaders & aspirants

She said that New Zealanders of Asian origin, who are chief executives of public and private sectors companies including not-for-profit organisations and top executives who aspire to become chief executives, would ideally be among the members of the new organisation.

“Its vision is to maximise the country’s successful business interface with Asia. The Organisation would provide a place for such corporate leaders, who enjoy peer-to-peer support, have the visibility with New Zealand companies doing business or desiring to deal with Asia. This organisation would connect Asian talent with New Zealand companies doing business in Asia and help discover business opportunities in Asia. Only Asian leaders would know about such opportunities due to their cultural links and knowledge,” Ms Chen said.

Training & Mentoring

She said that AsiaNZ CEO will also provide training and mentoring services to equip future Asian-New Zealand leaders for success.

“It will help emerging Asian leaders break through the bamboo ceiling and contribute to New Zealand’s business success and growth. This organisation will provide a unique avenue to existing and emerging Asian New Zealand leaders to network with each other for non-Asian New Zealanders and Maori,” Ms Chen said.

The organisation will conduct monthly workshops, mentoring opportunities, regular meetings and a two-day annual retreat.

“We are working in collaboration with the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China based in Auckland and the New Zealand China Council. We are also in discussion with a number of top companies for sponsorship agreements,” Ms Chen said.

The annual membership to AsiaNZ is $500 plus GST. We will publish further details in our ensuing editions.
