You are a person of compassion with a genuine care for Cantabrians who have lost their families, money and property but fear that your assistance may be too small to reach the right hands.
The rebuild of Christchurch would take a long time and the restoration of confidence among the people of the Garden City would take even longer.
But the fact that they need help now cannot be overemphasised.
National MP Dr Cam Calder has initiated the ‘Shoe Box of Love Project,’ which would encourage you to do your bit for the important cause.
“This initiative has been designed to get care packages to quake-affected people in Christchurch,” he said.
The ‘Shoe Box of Love’ could contain anything from goodies, feel-great gifts, personal notes of support, anything in fact that is not ‘perishable’ and make our people in Christchurch repose faith in humanity.
“This is a great opportunity for us to show Christchurch residents that we are thinking of them and doing our bit to help them get through this difficult time,” Dr Calder said.
You could create your own ‘Shoebox of Love,’ fill it with appropriate items and deliver the Box at Dr Calder’s office located above the Post Shop at the corner of Great South and Station Roads in Manurewa.
Dr Calder said Manukau residents were quick to offer financial donations and accommodation to victims.
“But we cannot underestimate the toll the Earthquake is taking on Christchurch residents. They will need our support for many months to come. The ‘Shoe Boxes of Love’ initiative is based on the Project that worked successfully in Queensland during the January floods, where over 11,000 packages were delivered to families,” he said.
