Scholarship grant to employees

The winner of a business award has passed on the accompanying educational opportunities to three employees to help in their career development.

The Mani Group (McDonalds West) was a winner at the recently held West Auckland Business Awards, which included a cash award of $6000 from Unitec Institute of Technology (Unitec).

Directors Dinesh and Anita Mani decided to distribute the amount to three employees for their higher education.

They created a scholarship scheme for the purpose.

Dian Zhang, Daniel Bell and Varsha Nand were awarded $2000 each of the cash prize, which will be credited to their Unitec fees.

Mr Mani said the scholarship was developed to help employees who faced financial challenges in pursuing their education.

“There are many bright young men and women who are unable to progress in their education and career because of paucity of financial and other resources. The three recipients went through a rigorous panel review. They demonstrated talent, ability to benefit from the studies and the real need for such help. We are pleased to provide them with this financial assistance,” he said.

Dian, who is pursuing a postgraduate Diploma in Business, said that the scholarship will enable him to complete his education.

“I am proud and pleased,” he said.

Daniel is completing a certificate in Applied Engineering.

“This scholarship alleviates some of the stress of having to fund the fees,” he said.

Varsha, who is completing a Bachelor of Nursing course said, “This amount is substantial for a person like me.”
