SFO digs into mining company

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) has brought Greywolf Resources NL, an Australian mining company under the microscope to probe into its affairs and determine if it has committed fraud.

The Company, formerly known as Greywolf Goldmining NL, has been under a cloud following allegations that it may have employed fraudulent means while applying for permits for exploration in New Zealand.

The applications related to permits for three petroleum exploration and seven mineral exploration projects in New Zealand.

SFO Director Adam Feeley said that his office had commenced investigations following a referral from the Economic Development Ministry.

“From the information received to date, it appears that false statements may have been made in support of applications.

“Our focus would be to determine the authenticity of certain statements made in the applications and, if there was false information, to determine who was responsible for making those statements,” he said.

The Ministry had issued a statement recently that it had rejected the applications filed by Greywolf.
