As a part of its efforts to promote campaigns to eradicate violence against women, the Wellington Mutamizh Sangam (WMS) organised a special programme on November 23, 2014 at the Johnsonville Community Center in the Capital.

The programme, conducted in Tamil, included a presentation on the White Ribbon Campaign and a lively discussion on related topics.

White Ribbon Ambassador Raveen Annamalai shared the message on the importance of this campaign and distributed white ribbons.

Guest speaker Professor Sudalai Muthu, a ‘Sky Professor’ from India, outlined the significance of such campaigns and encouraged the members of the community to support endeavours to protect and respect the honour and dignity of women.

Known for his oratory skills, he is also an accomplished painter, writer and Yoga master. His speech was inspiring and persuasive.

The event deliberated on two topics, including ‘Pride of Women’ and ‘Peace in the Family.’ The succinct message of the first topic was to respect and realise the importance of women in our lives.

According to the participants, ‘Peace in the Family’ would lead to peace in the community, the society, the country and eventually the whole world.

Simple words but powerfully communicated in the native language hit close to home for the participants at the White Ribbon Campaign.

Sridevi Venugopal is the spokesperson and e-Media coordinator of Wellington Mutamizh Sangam.
