Let us applaud our Sports, Community, Arts and Culture achievers

Energetic entertainment by professional artistes representing countries of South Asia will be among the highlights of the Seventh Annual Indian Newslink Sports, Community, Arts and Culture Awards 2021 scheduled to be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Mahatma Gandhi Centre, located at 145, New North Road, Eden Terrace, Auckland.

Our Artistes

Among them will be Nishi Ranathunga, Inosha Ranasinghe, Kavindi Wijeratne and Sachini Edirisooriya of the New Zealand Sri Lanka Dance Studio; the international Bhangra Group with Aman Gill, Amrik Singh, Lucky Saini, Gurpal Saini and Sunny Singh; the ‘Wonder Girls’ represented by Akshitha Gangishetty, Hiral Pusarla and Keertana Sannidhanam; Sanskrita Dsarma of Nepali origin performing the Sattriya Dance of the Indian State of Assam; Nikhila Sethu of the ‘Kiwi Narthakis’ presenting a Bharata Natyam number as the invocatory item and a 14-member troupe from ‘Chennai City Gangzta,’ including Abhinand Nanthakumar, Barathwaj Rameshbabu, Felicia Ann Andrew, Kavin Senthilnathan, Lakshmi Priya Angusamy, Lalithkumar Selvakumar, Muthuraman Arumugam, Nikhil Gadge, Nova Belle, Priyavarshini Mani, Raisa Infreda Arokiaraj, Sandhya Ravi, Thomas Paul and Vijay Padmanabhan.

The event will recognise sports achievers of yesteryears with Elite Awards and about 25 others for their excellence in various Sports, Community, Arts and Culture activities. Five outstanding persons will also receive the Indian Newslink Special Commemoration Awards.

Our Guests of Honour

Deputy Prime Minister and Sport and Recreation Minister Grant Robertson, Minister for Transport, Workplace Relations and Safety Michael Wood, Auckland Mayor Phil Goff, Act Party Leader David Seymour will be respectively Our Chief Guests and Special Guests of Honour. They will be joined, among others by Labour, National and ACT MPs and Directors of political parties and community leaders at the annual event.

These Awards are open to persons of Indian, Fijian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan and Nepali origin who are permanently resident in New Zealand or New Zealand citizens. 

The growing importance of people of our communities in various Sports encouraged us to launch the Indian Newslink Indian Sports Awards in 2012. These Awards were the first of their type in New Zealand.

About Entry Tickets

For the past 22 years, Indian Newslink has been reporting the achievements of our sports personalities in several fields, including Soccer, Cricket, Tennis, Netball, Hockey, Golf, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Boxing and Kabaddi. While some of them have risen to the national level playing international matches and tournaments, until 2012, there was no avenue to celebrate the achievements of many others as a community.
