New Zealand has no case of Coronavirus with everyone thus far affected having recovered and with no person in hospital.

The Health Ministry announced today that there were neither active cases nor new cases in the country as of this morning. The announcement followed a declaration from Auckland Regional Public Health that a sole patient had become free of symptom and hence has recovered.

The State Cabinet is currently in session to discuss moving the country to Alert 1, which will see almost all restrictions removed. Large gatherings, sports events and various other programmes that were barred will be allowed. However, it remains to be seen if the move will be with immediate effect or later in the week.

No active cases

Director General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield described the recovery of the last patient in Auckland as ‘good news’ and “something that rest of New Zealand can heart.”

“This is the first time since February 28, 2020 that there have been no active cases. There are also no new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand for the 17th consecutive day and no further deaths. The last reported new case was on May 22, 2020,” Dr Bloomfield said.

He will brief the media along with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern at 3 pm today.

The New Zealand Covid-19 App has had 522,000 registrations, an increase of 5000 since yesterday.
