The Otara Sports Awards celebrates and honours the sporting achievements of sports people including athletes, coaches and administrators in Otara, Auckland.
When the Awards were launched in 2017, the Otara Barbell Weightlifting Club were named Team of the Year before scooping up the Supreme Award and four New Zealand sporting greats – Rugby League heroes Ruben Wiki, Tawera Nikau, NZ Sevens legend Eric Rush and Silver Ferns great Temepara Bailey (nee George) – were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board Chairperson Lotu Fuli said this year’s event will build on the success of the inaugural Otara Sports Awards.
“The Otara Sports Awards is a celebration of the sporting excellence of local sports people. After last year’s hugely successful event, we are excited to open nominations so that our community can highlight our sporting heroes that are shining locally and even on the national stage,” she said.
“We will also be inducting new members of the Hall of Fame this year. This category honours the success of an athlete who has exceled at the highest level of their sporting code and also recognises their contribution to Otara and Aotearoa,” Ms Fuli said.
